There’s “good results”… and then there’s this.
Following the first leg of Canoe Kayak Canada National Team Trials in Chula Vista, three Balmy Beach athletes have unofficially secured their spots on Team Canada for the upcoming World Cups.
While the official team announcement is still to come, the results speak for themselves.
Lucas Stein Sets the Tone
After a steady start in the heats, Lucas flipped the switch when it mattered most.
Placing 3rd in his heat with the 7th fastest time overall, he came into the K1 500m final ready to race, and delivered. Lucas stormed to the win, taking the final by 0.335 seconds and locking in his spot on the team.
Owen Macleans Delivers Under Pressure
Owen came out firing in the Men’s K1 1000m, winning his heat and heading into the final with the fastest time. In a tight race, he powered to a 2nd-place finish, just 1.03 seconds off the win, securing his place on the World Cup team.
Cameron Low Closes It Out
Keeping things interesting until the end, Cam teamed up with Ian Gaudet in the K2 500m.
The duo delivered a clutch performance, winning the final by 0.27 seconds and claiming the final available spots on the team.

A Big Statement from Beach
The Men’s Kayak World Cup team is limited to just 5 athletes. BBCC has 3 of them.
It’s a huge moment for the club and a reflection of the work being done by athletes, coaches, and the broader community behind them.
What’s Next
The team is set to compete on the international stage this May:
May 8–10 – ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup – Szeged, Hungary
May 14–17 – ICF Canoe Sprint & Para World Cup – Brandenburg, Germany

(Official team announcement from Canoe Kayak Canada expected soon.)
We couldn’t be more proud of Lucas, Owen, and Cam. Big races ahead!
