Paddles Up! A Tribute to Donald May, the King

Writer: Balmy Beach Canoe ClubBalmy Beach Canoe Club

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Don May. Don was a beloved member of the paddling community and was known for his passion, enthusiasm, and love for the sport. He had been involved in canoeing for over 60 years and was always quick to share his knowledge and tips with young paddlers.

Don's famous quote, "It's not how big you are, it's how you pull your own weight" was a testament to his character. He believed in hard work and determination, and this is what made him a great role model for many young paddlers. He was always quick to share his knowledge and offer tips on how to improve performance, and he emphasized the importance of making lifelong friendships through canoeing.

Today was Don's funeral service, and the room was filled with members of all ages from the Balmy Beach Canoe Club. We gathered to share stories and remember the presence he had at our club. His legacy will live on through the memories and stories of those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Don. Your dedication and love for canoeing will not be forgotten.
